Special Educational Needs (SEN) Facility

Courtwood Primary School
This project comprised the extension of an existing school building with a single storey extension to create an SEN facility. Due to the sloping nature of the site and location of the required extension, major groundworks were required to prepare the site for the extension. A reinforced concrete retaining wall was constructed to a height of 3.5m. The new extension was clad externally with a skin of brickwork to match the existing buildings. The new accommodation consisted of:

  • 2 new classrooms
  • A meeting room
  • A therapy room
  • A fully equipped sensory room
  • Toilet facilities
  • Utility / storage rooms
  • External soft play area

As part of this contract, a large solar panel installation was fitted to the main roof of the school to enable the school to produce their own electricity.
